CoreWeave fell 15% on Oct 14, closing at $65.78. The next day, CEO Mike Intrator sent staff a memo, reported by multiple outlets, calling the selloff irrational and pointing to $104.2 billion in Q2 backlog plus more than $25 billion in new Q3 customer commitments, figures the company has cited together as over $125 billion. The stock recovered some ground, closing Oct 15 at $69.69. That bounce didn't hold: on Oct 16, CoreWeave fell another 11.9% to $61.39, a close just $1.88 above its 52-week low of $59.51 and 59% below its 52-week high of $150.40.

The balance sheet behind the backlog defense: Twelve Data's own figures put CoreWeave's total debt and lease obligations at $51.6 billion as of the most recent quarter, against $5.5 billion in cash. External reporting breaks that down as roughly $35.1 billion in recourse and non-recourse debt plus $16.5 billion in lease liabilities. Either way, it's more than the company's entire $33.9 billion market cap after Friday's close. Enterprise value sits at $79.9 billion, over twice the market cap.

Outside reporting on the bond market points the same direction, though Twelve Data doesn't cover corporate bond pricing, so these aren't verified the same way the equity numbers above are: CoreWeave's unsecured 2032 notes have reportedly traded below 80 cents on the dollar, with secondary-market yields near 15%, versus roughly 9% when that debt was issued. The company has responded with a reported $3 billion convertible note sale alongside an at-the-market stock sale of up to 35 million shares, aimed at reaching an investment-grade credit profile.

Nebius fell almost as hard the same session, down 12.2% to $165.47, a close 44.8% below its own 52-week high. Both are neoclouds financing AI data-center buildouts largely with debt rather than operating cash flow, and both sold off on the day the CEO's backlog defense was supposed to be reassuring investors. The Oct 27-28 FOMC meeting will move the macro backdrop either way, but the credit market's read on CoreWeave's own numbers is what's actually being tested here.
